What is Reiki?
The word Reiki is Japanese, meaning universal energy. It is a hands-on technique of energy healing, positively affecting the emotional, spiritual, mental and physical well-being of the client.
Where did Reiki originate?
Reiki was "rediscovered" by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan after reading ancient Tibetan texts. After voyaging on a vision quest to a holy mountain to perform fasting and meditation, he envisioned the Reiki symbols and then proceeded to do healings on himself and others along the path. Soon after, Usui opened a healing center in Tokyo, initiating the first Master, Mr. Hayashi. Later Hayashi initiated Hawayo Takata from Hawaii, and Reiki was then spread to the rest of the U. S.
Who does Reiki?
Reiki is done by Reiki practitioners I, II and Reiki Masters. It is practiced throughout the world, from the U.S. to Europe to Japan. It is done by a variety of people, from office workers to factory laborers to clinical psychologists to nurses, from the very young to the elderly. It is practiced by people of various religious affiliations and ethnic backgrounds.
How can I learn Reiki?
You can learn Reiki from a Reiki Master, an individual who has received attunements for levels I, II and Master. After your First Degree initiation, it is recommended to do Reiki everyday for at least 30 days before going on to level II.
What happens in a Reiki session?
In a healing session, the Reiki channel places his or her palms on the body of the client, letting the positive energy flow through the hands into the client. The client may feel a pulse of energy through that body part or other body parts, while they may also feel heat coming from the practitioner's hands. Some people have reported experiencing a coolness in an area of pain, or seen colors associated with the chakras, energy centers in the body.
Can I do Reiki now?
Anyone can be initiated as a Reiki channel. If you aren't yet initiated, you can do energy work on others just by placing your hands on them and imagining positive energy running through them. It's easy, and can be very calming.
What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki can be beneficial for stress reduction, relaxation, decreasing physical pain, cooling emotional difficulties, and inspiring spiritual direction. It is an all-encompassing healing modality, and the more you are open to it, the more effects it can have for you.
Is Reiki for me?
Reiki has great potential for anyone. Since we are all made of energy, it can warmly affect us no matter our age, sex, size, ethnic background, ability, or religious beliefs.
Why do people learn Reiki?
Those of us who are inclined toward alternative forms of healing are attracted to the system of Reiki. It is safe, and protects you from absorbing other people's energy. It is also a way of focusing the natural healing abilities we all have.
Why is Reiki needed?
With our society and its individuals always struggling on all levels, Reiki can help calm the mind, body and spirit, and open the client to a positive path. In our industrialized world that is so fast-paced and stressful, Reiki is helpful for healing the whole planet, and those beyond.
What if Reiki brings up difficult emotions?
Reiki can sometimes bring up buried feelings or memories. It is important to have a support system in place if you are having emotional or mental difficulties. The Reiki practitioner can be there as a healer to support you, and will help you to draw on your strengths. It is also important to know that Reiki does not take the place of a licensed counselor's, psychologist's or medical doctor's care when needed.
Can Reiki be combined with other modalities?
Yes, Reiki is very compatible with other healing arts such as massage, Polarity, Therapeutic Touch, chiropractic, yoga, and other art forms.
